Celebration of Life services for Howard Junior Dyson, 86, of Champaign, will be at 10 a.m., Monday, Nov. 10, 2008, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 604 Windsor Road, Champaign.

Bishop Gary Bucey will officiate. Brother Craig Isenbarger will deliver the eulogy.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, at Heath and Vaughn Funeral Home, 201 N. Elm, Champaign.

Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign. Graveside Military Honors will be accorded by Champaign’s VFW Post #5520 Color Guard.

Mr. Dyson died at 5:15 a.m., Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at Veterans Affairs Illiana Health Care System, Danville, Illinois.

He was born May 10, 1922, in Urbana, a son of Abel Fredrick and Florence Jenny (Schlorff) Dyson. He married Mary Margaret Auld on June 15, 1946, in Danville. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Stephen J. Dyson, of Urbana; one daughter, Carol Dyson-Hagler, of St. Peters, Missouri; one sister, Betty Alsop, of Champaign; three grandsons, Stephen M. Dyson, Spencer J. Dyson, and Justin D. Hagler; one granddaughter, Sarah B. Hamman; and two great-grandchildren, Graham Dyson, of Chicago, and Breaunna Dyson, of Champaign.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and three sisters.

Mr. Dyson was employed as a foreman with the C. S. Johnson Company in Champaign for over 40 years. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of the 1st Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Champaign. He was a member of the Champaign Sportsman’s Club.

His hobbies included camping, fishing, and being in the out-of-doors.
