Norman W. Nelson, 90, of Urbana, formerly of Rantoul and Lemont, Illinois, died at 1:05 a.m., Saturday, May 24, 2008, at Champaign County Nursing Home, Urbana.

Heath and Vaughn Funeral Home, 201 N. Elm, Champaign, is assisting Mr. Nelson’s family.

Mr. Nelson was born December 21, 1917, in Chicago, a son of Paul and Hulda (Hendrickson) Nelson. He married Barbara Erickson on February 12, 1945, in Chicago. She preceded him in death in January, 1996.

Surviving are one son, Donald R. Nelson, of Bettendorf, Iowa; two daughters, Kristine Eaton, of Champaign, and Judith Wertin, of San Diego, California; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Nelson was employed by Argonne Laboratories, Argonne, Illinois, for over 30 years as an instrument maker.

He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Lemont, Illinois.

He was a sports fan and a Cubs fan. He enjoyed watching Illini basketball.
