Melvin B. Breymann

Celebration of Life services for Melvin B. Breymann, 92, of Champaign, will at 11 breymanna.m., Saturday, February 6, 2010, at St. John Lutheran Church, 509 S. Mattis, Champaign.

The Rev. Mark Elliott and the Rev. Jeff Caithamer will officiate.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. at the church.

Burial will be at East Lawn Cemetery, Urbana. Military rites will be accorded by Champaign VFW Post 5520.

Mr. Breymann passed away at 6:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 2, 2010, at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana.

He was born May 25, 1917, in Bloomington, Indiana, a son of Henry J. and Christina (Bauer) Breymann.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward F. Breymann, in 2001.

Survivors include his companion, Marian Hathaway, of Champaign; cousins Mike and Susan Cosenza of Carlinville, and Dr. Gale England and husband Dr. Chris Getch, of Hinsdale; and good friends, Raymond Griffet of St. Joseph and Thomas Warmbier of Champaign.

Mr. Breymann was a member of St. John Lutheran Church for 87 years. He was a member of the Lutheran Layman’s League.

Mr. Breymann was a 1935 graduate of Champaign Central High School. He continued his education at the University of Illinois, receiving a Bachelor's degree in accounting from the College of Commerce in 1939.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943 to 1946 in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre and held the rank of First Lieutenant.

Before his retirement in 1975, Mr. Breymann was employed as an accountant with the Urbana Lincoln Hotel. He was a member of the planning committee for the Lincoln Square in Urbana.

Mr. Breymann enjoyed golfing and tennis and was a White Sox and Illini fan.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Lutheran Church or Champaign County Humane Society.
