Ruby Katherine Burton
Celebration of Life services for Ruby Katherine Burton, 97, of Gifford, formerly of  Rantoul and Champaign, will be at 12:45 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010, at Heath and Vaughn Funeral Home, 201 N. Elm, Champaign.
The Rev. L. K. Bräunig, pastor of the Mahomet Church of the Nazarene, will officiate. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign.
Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Burton passed away at 9:50 a.m., Sunday, Aug 15, 2010, at Country Health Nursing Home in Gifford. She was born May 6, 1913, in St. Louis, Mo., a daughter of William T. and Bertie Lena (Behimer) Burgess. She married Clifford Kirby. She later married the Rev. H. K. Burton on July 30, 1995, in Champaign. He preceded her in death on Aug. 13, 2004.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Joyce Arline Millage, a son, David Udell Kirby, three brothers, and three sisters.
Mrs. Burton is survived by five grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Before her retirement, she was employed by Sears as a sales representative.
Known by her many friends as “The Lady of the Church,” Mrs. Burton was a member of the Mahomet Church of the Nazarene and was also an active member of First Church of the Nazarene in Champaign.

Dear Loved Ones of Ruby (Kirby) Burton,
It is with that mixture of sadness and joy known only to the redeemed, that we send our condolences to you all. One of the treasured memories of our past is that we had the high honor of serving as the pastor and pastor's wife of such a fine Christian lady as was Ruby. Though more than twenty years have elapsed since we last served her in that way, her memory is still fresh, and shall remain so until we meet again in heaven.
