Celebration of Life Memorial Services for Ruth Jeannette Gillis, 80, of Urbana, formerly of the Charleston area, will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at
Meadowbrook Community Church, 1902 S. Duncan Rd., Champaign.
Pastor Ron Strack will officiate. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Kansas, Ill.
Mrs. Gillis passed away at 8:45 a.m., Friday, July 1, 2011, at Champaign County Nursing Home, Urbana.
She was born September 9, 1930, in Kansas, the daughter of Winfred and Gladys (Lowry) Tyler. She married Edward C. Gillis in Danville on January 23, 1949.
Mrs. Gillis was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a brother, Ronald Tyler, and three grandchildren, Edward and Amanda Franklin and Heidi Gillis.
She is survived by a daughter, Dorinda (Robert) Miller, of Urbana; a son, Bryce (Donna)Gillis, of Wimberley, Tex.; eight grandchildren: Frannie (Chad) Suhre, Richard Franklin II, Kyle (Susan) Franklin, Trevor Byers, Amy (Jeremy) Hannah, Bryce (Sheri) Best, Cassada Gillis, and Tyler Gillis; nine great-grandchildren: Cory Suhre, Danielle Suhre, Patrick Franklin, Olivia Franklin, Kaylynn Franklin, Alexander Hannah, Heidi Hannah, Claire Best, and Maguire Best; a nephew, Randy Tyler, and her dog, Georgia.
Before her retirement, Mrs. Gillis was employed at Carle Hospital’s Central Dictation. Her hobbies included motorcycle road trips, boating, dancing, and attending family events and activities.
She was previously a member of Eastern Star and was a member of Meadowbrook Community Church.
