James E. Harris, 83, of Urbana, passed away at 11:23 p.m., Thursday, March 17, 2011, at the home of his daughter in Champaign.

Heath and Vaughn Funeral Home, 201 N. Elm, Champaign, is assisting the family with arrangements. Services will be held at a later date.

Mr. Harris was born September 9, 1927, in Chicago, a son of Robert and Jennie Mae (Lewis) Harris. He married Marilyn Durst in Lake Worth, Fla., on March 6, 1961.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two sisters, and one brother.

Mr. Harris is survived his daughter, Rebecca L. Patrick and her husband, Jerry Patrick, of Champaign; and four grandchildren, Travis Jordan Patrick, Tyler James Patrick, Trevor Joshua Patrick, and Jenna Lynnae Patrick, all of Champaign.

Before his retirement, Mr. Harris was employed by Harris Electric as a general contractor and electrician. He served his country in the Navy during World War II.

He was a member of the Carpenter Union and a member of American Legion Post 71, Urbana.

He enjoyed hunting in Colorado.
