Graveside Celebration of Life Services for Glade C. Hewerdine, 90, of Rantoul, were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign.

The Rev. Steve Brady officiated.

Mr. Hewerdine passed away at 8:10 p.m., Thursday, October 29, 2009, at Heartland Healthcare Center, Champaign.

Heath and Vaughn Funeral Home, 201 N. Elm, Champaign, assisted the family with arrangements.

Mr. Hewerdine was born July 23, 1919, in Dewey, Illinois, a son of Ira and Myrtle (Matthews) Hewerdine. He married Florence Rankin of July 14, 1936, in Bellflower. She preceded him in death on October 23, 1996.

He is survived by a son, Max D. Hewerdine, of Mahomet; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, two sisters, and his parents.

Mr. Hewerdine was employed as a baker with Sunbeam Bakery for many years. After his retirement he worked for the Country Fair Osco Drug store.

He was a member of the Masons, the Amvets, VFW Post 5520 and American Legion Post 24. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army.

Memorial contributions may be made the the Champaign-Urbana Humane Society.
