Dorothy Louisea (Barker) McGarry, 77, passed away at 4:35 rosea.m., Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at her home in Homer.

Close friends and her church family will join Mrs. McGarry’s family in a private Celebration of Life Memorial Service, Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, at 3 p.m. at the Homer New Life Church. Pastor C. W. Greer will officate.

At noon on Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, close friends and her church family will join the family in a private Celebration of Life Service at the Cahokia Family Worship Center, 1515 Jerome Lane, Cahokia, Illinois. Rick Crandell will officiate.

Burial will be private.

Heath and Vaughn Funeral Home, 201 N. Elm, Champaign, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mrs. McGarry was born April 3, 1932 in Fall River, Massachusetts, a daughter of Irving and Emily Frances (Leonard) Bradley. She married Billy A. Barker on February 10, 1951 in Randolph County, Arkansas. He preceded her in death in 1983. Dorothy later married Walter Riggs and Joseph McGarry. They preceded her in death.

Mrs. McGarry is survived by two daughters, Patricia Gamache, of Winchester, California, and Cindy Barker, of Belleville, Illinois; a son, John Barker, of Ogden, Illinois; a brother, Eddie Bradley, of Miami, Florida; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.

Mrs. McGarry, a former resident of Cahokia, was employed as a telephone operator with Illinois Bell Telephone Company from 1946 to 1955. She retired in 1992 from Country Day School in Ladue, Missouri.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Homer New Life Church, the Cahokia Family Worship Center, or the American Cancer Society.
