Celebration of Life graveside services for Richard W. Young, 83, of Champaign, will be at 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign.
Military Honors will be accorded by VFW Post #5520 Color Guard.
Heath and Vaughn Funeral Home, 201 N. Elm, Champaign, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mr. Young passed away at 2:07 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011, at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana.
He was born June 20, 1928, in St. Joseph, Ill., the son of Silas H. and Mabel F. (Brittingham) Young.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
Survivors include two daughters, Jann (Steve) Taylor, of Anna, Ill., and Linda S. (Dick) Brown, of Rantoul; one son, Rick D. Young, of Chicago; a granddaughter, Tracie J. (Josh) Quinlan, of Rantoul; and a niece, Theresa (Dan) Murphy.
Before his retirement, Mr. Young was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier.
He served his country in the Army during the Japan Occupation in World War II and was called back to active duty during the Korean Conflict. He was honored to be a Life Member of Champaign’s VFW Post #5520. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Sullivan, Ill.
