Lester Dean Schafroth

Lester Dean Schafroth, of Urbana, passed away on Tuesday, January 8, at the Champaign County Nursing Home.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. and Memorial Service at 11 a.m., both at the Quest Church on Philo Road, Urbana, on Friday, January 18.

Heath and Vaughn Funeral Home, 201 N. Elm, Champaign, is assisting the family with arrangements.

He was born July 9, 1930, to Lester and Lila Ormelle Schafroth in Kempton, Ill. He married Lois J. Tredennick of Pontiac in October, 1951, and were married for 67 years.

Dean worked for the Illinois Central Railroad for 17 years, Stocks Inc. for 30 years and parking attendant for Carle for 6 years.

He was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church for over 60 years. He was a member of Boots-n-Bows Square Dance Club and he enjoyed fishing and camping with his family.

Dean is survived by his wife, Lois; children, Keith (Melissa) Schafroth of Philo, Phyllis (Doug) Hackman of Flint, Tex.; grandchildren, Shelly (Bret Bartram) Alexander of Humble, Tex., Alicia Schafroth Curtin of Sidney, Sarah Alexander of Rockford, Matt (Danielle) Cler of St. Joe, Nicole (Alex) Irvin of Sidney, Tyler (Emily) Cler of St. Joe, and Anthony Alexander of Tyler, Tex. He had four great-grandsons and another one on the way.

Also surviving are brothers, Duane (Debbie) Schafroth of Ashkum, Richard Schafroth of Bradley and sisters Lois Dornfield of Piper City and Nancy Griffet of Champaign.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
